GOOD WORKS

good works

We believe in healthy living. We also believe in sharing that ideal with others. Over the years The Carrot Common has initiated many charitable and community-building efforts, plus a percentage of our profits are allocated to support local sustainable agriculture, co-operative businesses and community food strategies.

Carrot Common gives back to the community by supporting small projects in Ontario working toward a sustainable and just regional food system.

We've helped put over $2 million to work in the last 20 years in supporting small farmers and food security projects

Carrot Cache Community Resource is a non-profit corporation partnered with Carrot Common developer, David Walsh and The Big Carrot. A percentage of the Carrot Common Mall's profits are allocated to support local sustainable agriculture,  co-operative businesses and community food strategies.

As of Spring 2021, Carrot Cache has granted $2.2 million to 934 organizations and individuals. Carrot Cache invests in small farmers, small non-profit organizations, community groups, workers cooperative, and others who are working to strengthen the local sustainable food system.  Historically, Carrot Cache funded grassroots groups across Canada and  Canadians working internationally. Currently, due to an overwhelming number of applications,  Carrot Cache focuses on projects in Ontario.

The Big Carrot Community Food Market also gives back through Carrot Cache with its Nature's Finest Fund

The Big Carrot Natural Food Market is Toronto’s iconic organic grocery store. With community giving central to the values of the store’s business model, the organization created a grant to support current producers and potential new suppliers. This annual grant program expands the availability of locally produced food and supports and strengthens the working relationships between local family farms and The Big Carrot. The mission of the grant is:

  • To invest in our community of local sustainable food producers
  • To expand the availability of locally produced organic food
  • To strengthen the working relationships between family farms and The Big Carrot Community Market

Carrot Common supports Project Home of SKETCH Working Arts

SKETCH is an award-winning organization that engages young people experiencing marginalization through the transformative power of the arts! In the last 25yrs, they’ve provided over 18,000 participants a dynamic space to explore their creativity and build their personal and professional capacities.

SKETCH believes that if young people develop in the arts, they increase their agency to become builders of resilient and vibrant communities. Through arts-based programming and mentorship, SKETCH connects marginalized youth with opportunities to realize the value of their creative contributions and leadership.

Project Home is SKETCH's initiative to secure its legacy space in Toronto's West-end, so that young artists can continue harnessing the power of the arts for years to come. Through the good work of Carrot Common and other community partners, SKETCH has nearly raised enough to purchase its studios and sustain its programming!
